2019 SEEDS Industry Forums
In 2019, in its continued support of the SEEDS initiative, Workforce Solutions Cameron organized six industry forums in collaboration with the following local school districts: Point Isabel, Rio Hondo, Los Fresnos, Harlingen, San Benito, and Brownsville. By organizing industry-specific panels across Cameron County, students obtain a better insight into different careers through stories from successful industry professionals with ties to the region. These forums have enabled us to continue highlighting career exploration opportunities for the youth by facilitating conversations between industry experts and students.
SEEDS encompasses all of our work with public schools, including our workshops for students and educators, career fairs and expos we organize at different campuses, the innovative Ambassadors program, and the #MyDreamJob campaign.

Continuing our efforts to raise awareness about career opportunities in the manufacturing industry, the Community Engagement and Communications Team at Workforce Solutions Cameron hosted the 2nd Annual Heavy Metal Tour and Manufacturing Forum.
On September 26th, 2018, the Workforce collaborated with the Harlingen Manufacturers Association to facilitate over 125 Harlingen high school seniors the opportunity to visit local manufacturing companies, see their state-of-the-art facilities and learn more about their production process, final manufactured products, and future job opportunities. Students that day had the opportunity to tour Penn Aluminum, Aloe Laboratories, ITD Precision, and Emerson.
Two days later, over 300 students from Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, San Benito ISD, and Santa Rosa ISD were able to attend the 2nd Annual Manufacturing Forum. The event featured a panel of manufacturing professionals including Mr. Norwood Fedie of the Harlingen Manufacturers Association, Dr. Tom Coyle of UTRGV, Mr. Raul Chavez of Emerson and Mr. Mark Bushur of Penn Aluminum. The panel was expertly moderated by KVEO Alfredo Cuadros. Each panelist was able to share their experiences with manufacturing and gave those in attendance advice on career success. In the end, Motivational Speaker Darrell "Coach D" Andrews spoke to the students, inspiring them to become leaders in their fields.
We thank our partners from the Harlingen Manufacturers Association for catalyzing such an incredible event. We look forward to next year’s tour and forum!
